Deacon Ministry

"Deacons, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not hypocritical, not drinking a lot of wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And they must also be tested first; if they prove blameless, then they can serve as deacons. Wives, too, must be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in everything. Deacons must be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households competently. For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves, and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus."  - 1 Timothy 3:8-13 HCSB

The Role of the Deacon

New Testament Deacons serve the Lord by conducting the caring ministry of the church (care for widows, benevolence, visiting the sick, being alert to the spiritual needs of the congregation) for the purpose of freeing the ministerial staff to focus on prayer and the ministry of the Word.  Deacons are charged with promoting unity within the church, and facilitating the spread of the gospel.

Deacon Family Ministry

The Deacon body is committed to serving the needs of FHBC members, and that commitment is manifested through the Deacon Family Ministry. Through this ministry, Deacons build relationships with a small number of families and serve those families in these important ways:

  • Prayer – your Deacon has committed to pray for your family on a regular basis.
  • Counsel – your Deacon is available as a confidential counselor regarding circumstances in your lives - standing beside you as you seek the Lord’s guidance together.
  • Crisis – your Deacon is available to support and strengthen you in times of grief, anxiety, and fear.
  • Christian Friendship – your Deacon wishes to build a joyful and loving relationship with your family.
  • Resource – as your liaison to FHBC, your Deacon will keep you informed about events and opportunities for service at Forest Hills, answer any questions you may have about ministries and operations of the church, and relay your feedback to the church leadership.
